2.19.08 - Milf Tribute
For those of you that unfortunately don't know the band Milf was an incredible
power trio that hailed from Buffalo N.Y. from the early to mid 90's. Their powerful
yet unique sound centered on layered guitars, reverbed soaked vocals and creative
rhythms. What made milf so fascinating and unique was the fact that despite
a layered, distortion filled backdrop, they were still able to create incredibly
catchy pop songs.
They released a couple of cassettes, a few 7 inches and two critically acclaimed
but largely unnoticed full-lengths on Big Deal Records. The lack of wide
spread interest has always been puzzling to most folks that are familiar with
Milf. Speculation has ranged from their chosen band name, bad studio production,
sub-par promotion to even the fact that they were from Buffalo. Disgracefully,
the Buffalo indie scene received very little respect and almost no attention
from outside interests back in the mid-nineties. An unfair and utterly
ridiculous stigma that fifteen years later is just now STARTING to be lifted.
Sadly, most outsiders missed out on several brilliant bands that were playing
Buffalo lofts, basements and clubs at that time….Milf was certainly on
top of that list.
Luckily Milf received wonderful support from their home town and they've always
been protected and considered as one of OUR bands. Their music has held
the test of time wonderfully and in fact many of the "kids" that attended
their shows eventually started bands and looked toward them as a strong influence.
Local drummer, music journalist and all around good guy, Matt Barber, has always
understood the effect Milf has had on music. He came up with the idea of paying
homage to one of his favorite bands by producing a tribute record featuring
several Buffalo bands that consider Milf an influence. Several meetings
and intense negotiations later…….BAM!!! We're proud to announce,
"Nothing Means Anything: Western New York Bands Pay Tribute To Milf."
as the second Headless Actor release.
